InterContinental Hotels Group is one of the world’s leading hotel companies, and now it is leading the way into the future of how technology will be used in guest rooms.
The company recently announced an ongoing collaboration with Baidu to introduce the next generation of intelligent hospitality. This tech is called Smart Rooms, which are powered by artificial intelligence, and it is expected to both improve and redefine the hotel experience for guests and travelers who operate within China’s hospitality industry.
What Does the Future Look Like?
The future of hotels, quite simply, is one of smarter hospitality.
From now on, for one example, guests who stay at InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun and InterContinental Guangzhou Exhibition Centre will be among the first in the world to enjoy the AI Smart Rooms. What this means specifically is that a total of 100 AI-powered Club InterContinental suites will soon be made available at InterContinental hotels in gateway cities and key destinations throughout the booming Chinese tourism market within this calendar year.
More About This Full-Service AI Hospitality Solution
This AI solution has been developed by the tech company Baidu’s DuerOS Platform, and in this use it is being customized for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts as a fully-operational AI solution.
This particular usage of the tech integrates AI with hotel operations, and it is supported throughout by hardware upgrades and cloud service. This differs from what we’ve come to expect from traditional guest rooms in part because the newly launched AI Smart Room is being created to fully embrace voice control technology.
What this means is that these rooms are now able to deliver a more natural human-computer interactive experience than some may be expecting. For instance, guests of hotels that feature this sort of AI room will be able to freely switch settings between work and leisure modes, thereby allowing them to overall enjoy a more convenient and seamless room service experience. This solution will also further fine-tune the current backstage management system that is already in place at the hotels where it is currently being installed and tested. This means that it will ultimately come complete with the ability to customize information and reset the devices, making hotel management a simpler task.
What IHG Leadership is Saying

The AI Smart Room will undoubtedly be extremely attractive for them, paving the way for a new level of modernization and consumer satisfaction. We will continue to make use of cutting-edge technology in hotel service and facilities in the future, and we hope this will further strengthen customer awareness and appreciation of smart technology. Meanwhile, we will provide more efficient operation and management services to our hotel owners.”
